Desulphurization

Desulphuration of steel means a decrease of the sulfur's contents in it. Operation of desulfurization in modern metallurgy, as a rule, leads on expulsion and after expulsion of metal from the oven in the unit «furnace — ladle pot» by input a calcium powder wire or an additive firm clinker formation mixes.

The basic requirements to refinement of metal during desulphuration in a ladle pot using the unit «furnace — ladle pot» are:

  1. An intensive deoxidizing of aluminium;
  2. An agitation of fluidic steel with desulfurating additives by means of blowing through Ar ;
  3. Shaping the scoria that possesses high sulphidic capacity with the minimal contents of iron oxides in scoria;
  4. An introduction of a powder wire with the calcium weighing material in a melt.

Thus, besides desulfuration, some other problems and tasks are being solved as well:

  1. A reception of pluggings that fit the conditions of proskating rinks according to their parameters of plasticity;
  2. An achievement of the required molding boxes and makeups of sulphidic pluggings;
  3. A transformation of steel that was deoxidated by aluminium. A transformation of crystal acute-angled aluminous pluggings in aluminates of a calcium globulae shape.

According to well-known facts, during the charge of a powder wire (PW) with calcium weighing material from 1 up to 2,5 kg / t   the level of desulfuration reaches values about 85% while during the comparable charge firm slag-forming mixes (FSM) the desulphuration does not exceed values in an interval from 10 to 15%. That is visible on the suggested diagram that shows the dependence of a desulphuration's level to the charge of software and FSM.

Also, it is necessary to note the main advantage of software before FSM. During the comparable time pieces of treatment fluidic steel the contents of sulfur in the steel processed by a powdered wire with calcium weighing material (figure 1) is approximately three times lower, than in the steel processed by FSM (figure 2). That is visible on the suggested diagram that shows the dependence between the contents of sulfur in metal and duration of treatment.

To sum up, it is possible to speak confidently about powdered wire's application for desulphuration as about a method with the greater level of adaptability to manufacture and economic feasibility, than during FSM application.
